What is hard water?
Hard water is caused by dissolved calcium and other minerals in the water table. With the geology of Hampshire and the surrounding counties comprising of mainly chalk and other sedimentary rock, the tap water in this region is some of the hardest in Europe. Hard water causes gradual scale deposits, particularly where that water is heated or evaporates. This makes boilers, kettles, steam irons and washing machines especially vulnerable to this problem, where it may lead to blockages or malfunctioning machinery.
